Meet Shea Bleoca.

Kinesiologist & Personal Trainer

Windsor, ON

What inspired you to enter and pursue this field?

I have always loved sports and been interested in the health and fitness industry. It was a pretty easy choice (and seemingly the only) coming out of high school.

How did you come to be in this position?

My journey really is a long one. I jumped from different position to different position but was always open to new opportunities. I received my BHK form U of Windsor then graduate certificate from Niagara college. Through school I obtained my CSEP-CEP certification and after graduation began working at a local gym and continued to search for positions throughout my local area.

About a year after graduation I began working for Bayshore therapy in nursing homes as a fill in PT assistant. Though that job I was referred for a position with CBI as a Kinesiologist at a physiotherapy clinic and got the job! This was exactly what I was looking for. I performed workplace, ergonomic assessments, pre and post employment testing as well as my main job which was working along side the physiotherapist as a kinesiologist at the CBI clinic. I learned so much and was able to complete my Registered Kinesiologist exam while working there. After 2 years I left to pursue a fulltime training position at Brady’s Fitness (a fitness studio in Windsor, ON) and never looked back.

I then decided to add a new facet to my job belt. I entered my journey into becoming a firefighter. Creating connections and applying for positions was where I started. I then decided I needed to learn a little bit more about the field and went to Texas for a month of training. A year and a half later I ended up landing a volunteer position at my local fire station (While 14 weeks pregnant- yes, they know).

I now work as a self-employed personal trainer at Brady’s Fitness, a contract worker for various companies & a volunteer firefighter.

And this is just the beginning. I have so much more planned for life!

What advice would you give young women looking to enter your current line of work?

If you're ever given an opportunity take it. No matter the pay or if you think it will be beneficial or not. It all leads somewhere. No excuses.

Family and career don't have to happen separately. You can do it all. Live your life to the fullest whichever way you find most fulfilling. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
