Meet Mackenzie Berthiaume.

Community Care Coordinator

Windsor, ON

What is your current career/job?

Social Worker - I have much experience with counselling, case management and systems navigation throughout my various experiences in my career thus far. Currently, I have the incredible opportunity to work at Home and Community Care Support Services as a Community Care Coordinator.

What inspired you to enter and pursue this field?

To have the opportunity for my passion to become my career. To work alongside individuals in the community to make changes that are grounded in social justice and improve individuals quality of life.

How did you come to be in this position?

After entering the field post Bachelor of Social Work, I quickly learned how resilient and strong the vulnerable population is in our community. My motivation as a practicing social worker is constructed in assisting individuals who empower their own goal to join with and contribute to their community. Within a few years of frontline work, I returned to school to pursue my Masters of Social Work. My commitment to my education and continuous growth as a Social Worker is a direct result of my efforts to make a meaningful difference within the community.

What advice would you give young women looking to enter your current line of work?

Find what works for you to maintain a work life balance. You are worthy of enjoying your line of work while still enjoying your day to day activities!

Social work is often referred to as a woman dominated field, however it is not true. Social work is a woman majority field, yet still male dominated as men are more frequently in positions of power. It is so important for women to be in positions of power in this field in order to be vehicles of change in our social justice field!
