Owner, Marie-Rose Music Study
What inspired you to enter and pursue this field?
Music has always been a huge part of my life. I believe music education is so much more than just learning to play an instrument. It teaches children valuable life skills like dedication, work ethic, patience, presentation skills and how to work through difficult problems. It improves their self confidence, emotional regulation, reading and math skills. I believe that music education can give children the tools to become strong, hard working and successful members of our community.
How did you come to be in this position?
I first started taking piano lessons at age four. When I turned 18, my piano teacher, Claire Durocher, encouraged me to start teaching piano. She taught me piano pedagogy and became a mentor and close friend to me. After five years of teaching under Claire, she asked me to take over her music studio that she had been building for 55 years! It was such an honour. Her mentorship, commitment to excellence in music education and to serving the community were all factors that inspired me to pursue this field.
What advice would you give young women looking to enter your current line of work?
Do what you love. Do what brings you joy. Do whatever makes you feel the most alive. And then do it the best you can! Life is too short to do something that doesn’t make you feel inspired and happy. You can do whatever you dream, if you set your mind to it!
