Meet Christine Williams.

PhD Scientist

Deputy Director of a Cancer Research Institute

Wife and Mom of two boys

Toronto, ON

What inspired you to enter and pursue this field?

My aunt's breast cancer led me to seek a career in cancer research

How did you come to be in this position?

Undergraduate in life sciences at Queen's and did a lot of summer research jobs; PhD in Immunology at University of Toronto/Sick Kids; post-doctoral research in immunology/developmental biology at Harvard; 10 years at the Canadian Cancer Society; 4 years at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research as an executive.

What advice would you give young women looking to enter your current line of work?

Don't be afraid to follow your intuition about 'fit' for you and have an atypical career path; put your hand up; be confident, even if you have to fake it; have mentors who not only guide you but actively push you forward.
