Meet Amanda Garant.

Owner of Amanda's Petsitting

Windsor, ON

What inspired you to enter and pursue this field?

Love of animals, need in the market.

How did you come to be in this position?

I was working as a registered veterinary technician. I found that the boarding facilities were not ideal. I thought that a service where pets got to stay in the comfort of their own home would be a much needed alternative to kennels and boarding. I helped bring this alternative form of pet care to our city back in 2006. Since then I have helped hundreds of families, thousands of pets, and provided a niche service for my community. I expanded this year to also include a gourmet line of pet treats to offer even more value to my amazing clientele.

What advice would you give young women looking to enter your current line of work?

I had an uphill battle starting a business as a woman and as a very young woman. I was only 21 when I started my small business. It was hard to be taken seriously in that sphere. A relentless pursuit towards your goals is essential. Keeping focused on your vision needs to be at the forefront of your mind as you may face opposition. Not everything is a booming success right out of the gate. There are a lot of hurdles along the way If you do not pivot when you face a challenge, then you will be stopped by it. Never stop persevering.
