What is your current career/job?

- Entrepreneur (Social Entrepreneur), Coach, & Motivational Speaker

- Career Coach and Sales & Small Business Coach for Purpose Driven Womxn

What inspired you to enter and pursue this field?

This is a very LONG story! :) It was all very coincidental and meant to be...

Everything I’ve done in my career was NEVER ONCE INTRODUCED TO ME by a teacher, guidance counsellor, or anyone that I knew.

- Non-profit & International development

- Social entrepreneurship

- Sales

- Coaching & Speaking

I was studying business and entrepreneurship and just like most young people, I didn't really know what I wanted to do.

During the 2008/2009 economic recession I was in 3rd year university and I was looking for a summer job when my business program sent an email about a 3-month summer internship in Kenya (East Africa). And that was the beginning of my purpose driven career :)

I worked with an amazing group of Kenyan women to successfully launch a women's entrepreneurship project. I became wildly passionate about women's empowerment, social entrepreneurship (using business as a force for good), employment and livelihoods, and international development work.

How did you come to be in this position? Tell us about your journey - how did you get to where you are now, what inspired you to pursue this career?

After those 3 months in Kenya, I did everything I could to go back the following year and I successfully negotiated for funding from my professor and the non-profit org that I previously worked with to make that happen :)

I spent over 10 years building a successful career filled with passion, purpose, and eventually financial freedom working in non-profit, international development, social entrepreneurship, and tech sales.

I've worked with thousands of youth, womxn, non-profit organizations, social enterprises, and small businesses in North America, the Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa including Canada, the US, Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Ghana.

Most recently I was the top sales rep at a social enterprise and tech start-up in early childhood education bringing in over $290,000 in annual recurring revenue in 2019 alone. I achieved tremendous growth, success, and results with hundreds of loyal, long-term customers and child care partnerships using a consultative approach built on passion, honesty, and empathy.

I became wildly passionate about the power of sales, communicating with confidence, building meaningful relationships, and negotiation.

I was fired abruptly from that job ^ and went through the 2nd lowest point in my life. I hired a lawyer and spoke with dozens of professionals and HR leaders where I learned all about all of the things my employer did wrong, employee rights, human rights violations, negotiating severance, and so much more.

This was a massive blessing in disguise as it led me to where I am today - my ultimate passion and purpose - running my own business and coaching women to achieve their greatest potential! :)

I had already launched my business Athari as a side hustle in 2018. Athari is a social enterprise that uses a sustainable for-profit business model to make a massive impact in the world. As a blend between the non-profit and the for-profit world, social entrepreneurship is the future.

I use my proven track record of success with the job search and sales to coach women to overcome imposter syndrome, communicate with confidence, land their dream job and dream clients, build a wildly successful career, achieve their goals, and negotiate for what they deserve.

SO MUCH ADVICE TO GIVE! :) Please book a call with me for a complimentary career chat because I will customize the advice for each young woman and give you TONS of inspiration and direction -

In a nutshell...

- Explore and network like crazy! Talk to as many people as you can, show up to as many events and opportunities as you can, volunteer, travel, follow different orgs and companies on social media and LinkedIn, etc. This is the best way to figure out your PASSION and PURPOSE.

- Invest in yourself - work with a career coach, a life coach, or some other professional dedicated to helping you figure it all out :)
